Overview

ZafMarine was awarded the contract for the installation of a critical 12km subsea gas pipeline in the Gulf of Suez, connecting offshore production platforms to the SUMED (Suez-Mediterranean) pipeline network. This strategic project required precise engineering and execution to ensure the safe and efficient transport of natural gas from offshore fields to onshore processing facilities.

Our scope of work included comprehensive seabed surveys, route engineering, pipeline installation, and post-lay trenching. The project utilized advanced pipelaying techniques and modern equipment to ensure rigorous standards of safety and environmental protection were maintained throughout the operation.

  • Installation of 12km of 24-inch subsea gas pipeline
  • Pre-lay and as-laid surveys using advanced ROV technology
  • Trenching and backfilling for pipeline protection
  • Hydrostatic testing and pre-commissioning activities

The successful completion of this project has significantly enhanced the capacity and reliability of Egypt's gas transportation infrastructure, supporting the country's growing energy needs and export capabilities.

Challenge

The project faced significant challenges including complex seabed topography, strong underwater currents, and the need to minimize environmental impact in the ecologically sensitive Gulf of Suez region. Additionally, the project had to be completed within a tight 8-month schedule to meet critical energy demands.

Solution

ZafMarine implemented a comprehensive solution that included detailed seabed mapping, advanced dynamic positioning systems for precise pipelaying, and specialized trenching equipment. Our team worked closely with environmental agencies to ensure all operations complied with rigorous environmental protection standards. We also implemented a robust project management system to maintain schedule and quality control.

Results

The project was completed two weeks ahead of schedule, with zero safety incidents or environmental violations. The new pipeline increased gas transportation capacity in the region, supporting Egypt's energy security and economic growth.

ZafMarine's expertise in subsea pipeline installation was evident throughout the project. Their team's professionalism and commitment to safety and quality were instrumental in delivering this infrastructure ahead of schedule.
