Overview

The SUMED Ain Sokhna Product Hub adds petroleum product import, storage and re-export capacity on the Gulf of Suez, served by marine loading and unloading arms ranging from 12 to 24 inches and berths able to receive tankers of up to 160,000 DWT. The hub was executed by the ENPPI and PETROJET joint venture for SUMED, the Arab Petroleum Pipelines Company.

ZafMarine was contracted to deliver the marine vessels and the installation engineering for the loading arms. Our scope covered the transportation and handling of the loading-arm assemblies, equipment and materials to the offshore works, and the controlled lifting and positioning required to set the arms in place.

  • Marine vessel supply and mobilization for the offshore installation
  • Transportation and handling of loading-arm assemblies, equipment and materials
  • Offshore lifting, positioning and installation engineering for the arms
  • Marine spread coordination alongside the platform berths

The loading and unloading arms were installed at the product hub berths, supporting the import, storage and re-export of petroleum products at Ain Sokhna.

Challenge

The loading-arm assemblies and materials had to be transported and handled out to an offshore platform on the Gulf of Suez, where each arm had to be lifted and set precisely on its berth in open-water conditions.

Solution

ZafMarine mobilized suitable marine vessels and rigging, planned the transport and handling of the arm assemblies and materials, and carried out controlled offshore lifts to position and install each arm.

Results

The loading and unloading arms were installed at the SUMED Ain Sokhna Product Hub berths, ready to serve petroleum product import, storage and re-export operations.
